How do I insert an image into Impress image placeholder retaining original proportions? I do not want to resize it manually every time

I fully understand OPâs question, having come here in pursuit of an answer to the same question. Iâm not sure how thereâs anything unclear in âplaceholderâ (even if itâs not Librespeak).
I hope youâre still around to read this. By experimentation Iâve found a simple way to drag and drop images into Impress.
Drag the image from the file explorer, and as you cross into Impress, press and hold the Ctrl key. That creates a placeholder (handles) on the image, and it wonât fill the whole screen, distorted. It keeps its proper shape.
