Inserting a copy of text from one part of a document to another with a book mark or something similar

I would like to be able to have Writer insert a copy of some paragraphs from one part of a text automatically and be able to have updates of the original text appear in the copy.

In Word I can create a bookmark containing several paragraphs of text. Then I can have this text also appear in another part of the document using a reference field “Ref” and the name of the bookmark. This is a very valuable feature in Word.

I have tried to do the same thing in Writer, but nothing I have tried works. When I insert a bookmark only the first paragraph appears, even though all the paragraphs are marked a bookmark in the original spot.

All I can find in Writer are ways to have a field that jumps to a bookmark. I hope there is some way to have Writer do what I could do in Word.

If so how do I do it?

One way would be creating a section in original document; then in the target document, create a section that links to that source document and its specific section.

A DDE link could be another possibility.

Thank you for responding to my request Mike. I can see this would be helpful for sharing text between to documents.
I was asking about something else. I realize from re-reading my question specifically that I didn’t mention that I would like a piece of text in a document show up as text in another part of the same document, and if I make changes in the original piece of text, these would show up in the other text as well. MS Word allows this and it is a very convenient in many cases , such as in making address labels). I imagine this might be possible in Writer, but the help doesn’t seem to describe such a scenario, and when I bookmarked a piece of text with several paragraphs and made filed to connect with it, only the first paragraph appeared.
If you have time, I’d appreciate it if you would try doing what I would like to do and let me know what happens and if you get it to work, please let me know. Making sections in a document seems overly complicated compared with what was very easy to do in MSWord.

The way it worked in Word was that you create a book mark that includes the text you what to show up elsewhere in the document, then create a “reference” field in the place where want it to appear as well which names the bookmark. I imagine this should be possible in Writer, but can’t discover how to to it.
By the way, my name is Richard. I can’t figure out how to make this name show up when I have given mail@unfoldingfutures as my login name. If you a suggestion on that, I’s appreciate hearing about it.
Best wishes

The linked section suggestion allows that - you can reference sections inside the same document as well.

And I can’t see how that’s more difficult compared to what you did in Word.

The way you do it in Writer is that you create a section that includes the text that you want to show up elsewhere in the document,

then create a linked section in the place where want it to appear as well which names the first section.

Don’t worry about it - the system can tell us everything about you that you consider necessary to tell.

Click your Profile Picture in the top right corner of the site, select Preferences and fill out the required fields.

It is impossible in Writer using bookmarks currently - see tdf#100566. So your options are only these: bookmarks for text that doesn’t cross paragraphs; sections for text that consists of several paragraphs. You will have no way to do what you want, if the text starts in the middle of one paragraph, and ends in another.
