I was going to install LibreOffice on Catalina this evening. When I clicked on the DMG file there appeared to create a message saying it could not update the applications folder.
Of course, it cannot, it must update the applications folder of the user. So I am stuck and cannot install Libreoffice. Any suggestions on what to try?
Thanks,
Ed

No - applications go into /Applications
which is a global folder and installed applications are owned by the the user who installed the app. If you don’t have write permissions to /Applications
you cant install or you missed to provide your correct password when trying to install.
Sorry to duplicate and the tag misuse(which I do not understand). I did a search or two and could not find anything relevant and going through thousands was not feasible for me. Also,m there was no prompt for any password.
I know rules for this site are quite different from forums and not really explicited. You need some time to get used to it.
One of the “rules” is: answers are reserved for solutions and limited to one per person. Yours is not a solution and should not be stated as your answer. You are now precluded from any additional answer on this question unless you delete it (which I recommend you do).
Comments are the nearest equivalent to a conversation or thread. Their number is not limited but they can’t be longer than 1000 characters.
To retag, click on the retag link. Erase base
and type common
. Ignore suggestions. To exit, type Enter

Welcome here and cheers.
