Every time I launch LibreCalc my machine checks for an update. I routinely close my applications when done with a piece of work and expect them to open right away when I return. The “Checking for Updates” takes a long time. I might restart LIbreCalc 10 times during the course of a day. Then it’s, “toe tap”, “toe tap”,. When there is no update, the app starts very quickly, so, whatever the mechanism is for update checking and inserting is, is slowing down the show.
One would think an update check once or twice a day would suffice for 99.99% of the users. The design team could design a configuration manager which permits the user to specify “Check for update frequency”. Then, everyone that needs that latest now still gets their wish, and those, such as I, who are happy with “Once daily” would be overjoyed.
Thoughts anyone? Or valid reasons for not doing such a thing?
