Is it possible to make an horizontal line which doesn't take the entire page width?

Hello,

I would like to be able to make small horizontal lines with paragraph styles which are for instance half or a quarter the length of a standard paragraph style horizontal line. And I would like to either keep them to the left or center them.

Is it possible to do this? Or should request this as a new feature?

Thank you!

Is this horizontal line “intrinsically” attached to a paragraph? I.e. it is part of paragraph semantics?

If your line is “simply” a “decoration”, you can create a custom paragraph style which has ad hoc indents. Add a top or bottom border. Before text at zero aligns the line to left; After text at zero aligns the line at right; having Before text equal to After text centres the line. Any variation on this scheme is up to you.

Since you use this paragraph style without text (empty paragraph), set font size to 2pt (the absolute minimum in Writer) so that fonts don’t come in the way and you can tune more easily spacing.

Set Above and Below spacing to your need. They can be reduced to 0cm in order to “stick” to preceding or subsequent paragraphs.

An option could be using an image for the paragraph style’s area, with custom position (at the bottom). The image itself could be just a line.

I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking about, but I’ve had this item in my Insert menu for a long time now.

Hi, yes thank you I was exactly looking for that!

Hello thank you very much, I was exactly looking for that. Yes indeed I was looking for a way to make a line without text, just as a separator.
