Is there a manual specifically about programming using LibreOffice Basic (inside Calc)? It sort of works for me but I am blundering along terribly. Help please…
You might have checked some of the standard documentation sites already, but just in case not:
- the Macros guide in the LIbreOffice wiki;
- check the “Macro” chapters in LibreOffice and Calc guides (1.1, ch. 13 for LibO, and 1.3, ch. 12 for Calc);
- the OpenOffice Basic Wikipedia page has some useful links, including:
- there’s also a book, Learn OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet Macro Programming from Pakt Publishing.
FWIW
Thank you. Are “Macro programming” and Basic programming the same thing in the context of OpenOffice and LibreOffice?
I might need correcting (and if Someone Who Knows could confirm?), but my understanding is that macros are programmed in LibO (OpenOffice) Basic, so for practical purposes, the two can be thought of as “the same thing”. Some of the pages linked above provide outgoing links BOTH to “macro” documentation, AND to “Basic” documentation, while the “Basic” docs state that “OpenOffice.org Basic has all the components needed to create its own Basic macros”. … (1 of 2)
… (2 of 2) So perhaps it’s best to distinguish them this way: “LibO [or OO] Basic” is the programming language for “macros”, but “macros” may also include the assignments (buttons, menu placement, etc.) that lie beyond the programming of the automated task/function alone. (FWIW!) Again, some confirmation (or denial!) of this suggestion would be appreciated.
