I want to change whole sentences or paragraphs after I have written them. This is easily achieved in WORD. Is it possible in Writer?
Actually this is much simpler:
Select some text, go to Format → Change Case and choose from the following options:
- Sentence case
- lowercase
- UPPERCASE
- Capitalize Every Word
- tOGGLE cASE
- Rotate case (Title Case, UPPERCASE,
lowercase)
And for simpler, Word-like behavior, go to Tools → Customize → Keyboard and assign a shortcut (such as Shift + F3 ) to the function Format → Rotate case, as Cam advised.
I’ll be posting this in other places because I’ve been looking for this answer every since I switched to LO Writer. Here is how to duplicate the Shift+F3 Caps Toggle found in Microsoft Word.
Open LO Writer
Click Tools > Customize > Keyboard. Under “Shortcut Keys”, highlight Shift + F3 (or your desired/available shortcut).
Under “Functions” and the Category column, highlight Format
Under the Function column, scroll down to and highlight Rotate case (Title Case, UPPERCASE, lowercase)
Now, click Modify (top, right) (It’s not necessary to save, but feel free to do so) then hit OK
Now when you type, you can highlight a word or letter and hit Shift+F3 to toggle through those three cases.
Hope that helps!

You can use FONT EFFECTS for this. Select the sentence or paragraph, and then either use the menus FORMAT > CHARACTER or right click on the area selected and choose CHARACTER. Select FONT EFFECTS and you will have a choice of small letters, capitals, small capitals.
There is also a selection called RELIEF which allows you change the look of the fonts like outline and shadow. The same menus can be used to change font colour, size etc. … hope this helps…Peter
