Writer doesn’t capitalize properly. I waited until the release of 5, but it’s still doing it. This is all with autocapitalization turned on in autocorrect options and without using the shift key.
. “it’s a lovely day” - doesn’t capitalize.
. it’s a lovely day - doesn’t capitalize
. “it’s a lovely day.” he stood still - doesn’t capitalize after either of the periods.
. It is a lovely day - does capitalize.
Textmaker, WPS Office and Scrivener all capitalize consistently after periods. Microsoft Word capitalizes words with apostrophes in them when required (ie at the beginning of a sentence) but does not capitalize inside quotation marks. However, when a sentence ends in a quotation mark, it does capitalize.
I know that an apostrophe is counted as a 27th letter of the alphabet, rather than a punctuation mark, but that doesn’t help with this problem. Neither does substituting a symbol that looks right, but isn’t, as Writer underlines it as an error.
Writing a macro leads to inconsistent results. It will capitalize some words, but not others.
