I write a formula in a cell. Then I have to modify it in the address bar. And quite often it is growing longer and longer, more complicated.
I get hassles with the editor in the address bar sometimes. The whole thing is not too user friendly.

Yes. For the general issue there is a general solution:
Break your formula down. Make intermediate calculations in separate cells.
I know this is not really what you asked for, but it will (except in rare cases) make your work a whole lot easier.
If you have a particular situation you need advice for, explain in more detail what you are trying to accomplish. If you have one of those rare cases I mentioned, there may still be an approach which makes it easier. If we don’t know the gist of the problem, we can’t sensibly suggest a solution.
Check Function Wizard. It allows to break down your formula, help you see the arguments to specific functions, and results of individual calculation steps.
