Issue With Adding Rows (& Columns?) to Table in Writer

Having only recently migrated from OpenOffice to Libre, I don’t know all the ‘tricks’. While working on a table in Writer, I wanted to add multiple rows (insert, after) in a single operation. I selected Table>Insert>Rows Below and the expected Dialogue popped up, giving me the option to designate how many rows I wanted to insert. At that moment I had to leave LibreOffice and attend to another matter on the desktop. When I returned to LibreOffice, the Dialogue window had disappeared and a single row was inserted. Wanting to add the remainder of the rows I desired, I repeated Table>Insert>Rows, but no Dialogue appeared … instead, another row was added. I appear to be left with the rather clumsy exercise of selecting as many multiple empty rows as I have then inserting again until I reach the number I require.

I would appreciate guidance in how to get LibreOffice to perform as I think it probably is meant to.

For Calc: If I select 3 rows before asking to insert row I get 3 rows inserted.
.
Can not test this from my mobile for Writer, but try yourself, if you like.

Hello Wanderer. Sorry for not responding before now … I’ve been ill and have not been able to engage online. The situation that gave rise to my query has since been finalised. However, I will shortly have to repeat the exercise of modifying a table inserted in an LO Writer document. If I strike the same issue again I’ll post a new thread.

Thank you for responding.

Table>Insert>Rows Below (same for Rows Above) inserts a single row. In my opinion, menu wording should be singular.

To insert several rows, you must use Table>Insert>Rows …. This pops up a dialog.

Now, just guessing (because you didn’t mention OS name nor LO version), the dialog may have ben closed by some form of time-out which may have caused some change in configuration. Have you tried closing LO and reopening your document?

LibreOffice Help for Writer, topic Insert Rows:

Insert rows above or below the active cell. The number of rows inserted corresponds to the number of rows selected. If no row is selected, one row is inserted. The existing rows are moved downward.

So if do you have a two rows table, you can’t insert five rows with Rows Above or Rows Below.
