Java and libreoffice on ubuntu?

Hey guys,
I got ubuntu and it comes with libreoffice, when i used windows, it always required java.
here is my question:
will libreoffice run faster with java? (without LO-base)
best

The only difference java makes wrt speed is the time when the Java-VM is loaded for the first time, i.e. when you first use a feature that uses java. The only thing that required java in the default installation of LO was languagetool (a pattern based grammar checker), and that was initialized as soon as you created a text-document. But this has been replaced by lightproof, which doesn’t need java. So in current versions there is nothing that requires java when starting any of the applications, so it doesn’t have any impact on startup speed or similar. LO itself will not run faster because you disable java. You will not be able to use some of the optional features, but that’s all. Java itself is also not slow, just loading the VM takes some time (because it needs to read quite a bit of data from your harddisk) - that is the reason behind the “java is slow” myth.

I don’t think it’s a matter of anything running faster with java, but rather whether any features you desire require java. See this post: What features absolutely require Java?.

If a feature doesn’t require java, the presence of java won’t make any difference to speed, as far as I know.
