Is Java necessary to save a Writer (ODT) file? Java isn’t necessary to enter or edit text. Java isn’t necessary to save a spreadsheet or drawing file. But when I try to save a Writer file LibreOffice “hangs.” Several years (and versions) ago, no problem. I gave details about this issue previously. The only reply was that MAYBE installing Java MIGHT solve the problem. LibreOffice 5.0.2.2 (and some earlier versions), Mac OS X 10.10.5 (and some earlier versions), US English.
