Kitchen and Bathroom fittings

Is there website where I can import into Draw scaleable kitchen and bathroom fittings?

IMHO if you’re sketching house blueprints, using a dedicated architecture application will give you better results with less effort. There are several in the FOSS domain with varying degrees of difficulty.

Do you have any to recommend? I am currently ATTEMPTING to use Draw and it is not very intuitive from I’m used too.

Links?

How difficult? More difficult than Draw?

I’m using FreeCAD, but don’t expect it to be “intuitive”. You better read the documentation and exercise yourself on scratch documents. It is very powerful and requires some knowledge about what is CAD and what can be expected from it.

Basically it is a 3D-CAD program. Thus, it is much more difficult than Draw (I’d rate Draw as “elementary” even with its contorted style system). There is an Architecture workbench which adds specialised “primitives” to a “common” part design workbench (floors, walls, doors, windows, roof, …).

The workflow is to draw 2D-sketches (eventually drawn on existing surfaces) which you extrude or drill to create your 3D-objects. You continously alternate between workbenches: Sketcher for the basic 2D-plans (in any plane XY, YZ, XZ or any direction), Architecture for creating the building, Part Design for shapes not in the standard library. The reason for this alternation is the huge number of tools/shapes. They are grouped into workbenches so that the UI is not cluttered.

Contributors have also designed many ad-hoc libraries, such as furniture and appliances.

Do you still think this would be the software to use for things like: e.g. Electrical & Instrumentation, Piping & Instrumentation, Control Circuits, Panel Build Out, Systems Integration, …,

I have used similar modeling software’s, but am aware of the fact that it takes a Goliath amount of time to finish, especially for complicated objects; so when it comes to the less involved designs (like I mentioned above) I have used softwares similar to Draw to get a few systems printed out. And as “unprofessional” as it sounds, Visio has been one of them. The problem I am running into with Draw is that there is very little “drag an drop” abilities, not that there is a big problem with being more rigid in the use of Draw for drawing out the systems from above, just that it defeats the purpose of a quick or moderately quick draw out of generally simple systems that I would normally get with a program like Visio.

Any other recommendations?

Can you expand on what you mean?

  • You can drag objects into Draw from a file manager.
  • You can drag objects from the Gallery. If you create other folders in Gallery you can drag objects into your own repositories in Gallery. Click and hold for two seconds until icon changes then drag into folder in Gallery for reuse in future
  • Ctrl+click and drag to duplicate on page.

You can also drag&drop in Draw using the Gallery.

Yes, I am sorry, I did not mean it literally (in this case) which is why I put it in quote marks, but more of way to describe what is available on other softwares (as mentioned before) in style, e.g. you can readily grab something from a left or right Navigation Tree, drop on the Main Page and then click either something in the Overhead Tool Bar drag it to the Main Page, and start using it with either the Objects inserted there through an Upload or the Objects one dragged into the main page from the Navigation Tree. Simple things like this, is what I was trying to explain about “drag an drop”. I believe you when you say Draw has that feature, even though I have yet to get good luck with it on any tools that I am trying to use for my designs, e.g. Lines (point?), quick Static Text, …,

Maybe one issue might be that I can’t see anything on the Right Hand Nav tree, it’s just dark. I went to Window>Options>LibreOffice>ApplicationsColors and changed everything to a bright color, as well as clicking Reset, but everything is still Dark; so I can’t really tell if some of the “drag an drop” options are available.

If your operating system is set to dark mode but you want LibreOffice to be in light mode then you want to use LibreOffice version 7.5.x (maybe 7.4 something or later) and click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View > Appearance and select Light.

Ah, okay. That solved the problem of having more Ready Access to the tools, since I could not see them to begin with.

If you just want to be able to scale the images, do an internet search for “svg images of plumbing fixtures” and you should receive suggestions for a number of sites – some charge, some are free.

You might even be able to convert the image into a polygon and un-group the parts to edit them.
