Libre Base issue .odb file

The apparent link png above is the issue I am having with a libreoffice7.2 base file… it was working fine… read on…

I made 4 or 5 copies of a maintenance file from different times throughout the year… I also have kept them separate … read on…

My trouble began after saving my most recent file… it completed the save…

but when I tried to reopen the same file to add more data entry… the file would not open & I was met with the display as set above…

So I thought that I may be able to open 1 of my older files… but bizarrely I was met with the same response…

now none of my files will open…

Anyone able to shed light on this 1 please would be greatly appreciated.

I am running latest windows 10 os
the latest Libreoffice

have not installed any other programs lately & the machine has plenty of hd space & memory & I basically use it for data entry…

the file itself is only 33kb and so shouldn’t be breaking my computer

error code 1 is mentioned in the report but I do not know where to start.

many thanks Terry

Hello,

Don’t recall seeing that error before. Can you create a new Firebird Base file without any problems? If not maybe a user profile issue. See → LibreOffice user profile.

If you can create a new file without issue, can you post your file? Certainly do not expect this if confidential or personal information involved. If that is the case, you may consider sending as a PM (personal/private message)

Hi Ratslinger,

Thankyou for your help.

By trying to make a new base data sheet , I can & it seems all is well but the file I need to open will not…

You mentioned User profile issue… I will check out your link…

My file has confidential details in as I run a very small business & use the entries to keep track of work I have done & for whom.

will get back to this once I have read your links.

Thankyou

The only other time I have encountered this issue was when I have been entering data…

Base would tell me that the file could not be saved because I had over inputted too many characters into the data field… once I had removed a few characters I could then save the file.

But this is a first that the program will not open the file

It is bug 144163

You have to switch to a version older than LO 7.2. There it has been possible to put more characters into a field in Firebird as defined. You have a field defined with a length of 50 characters but it contains 61 characters in your database.

Open the DB in LO 7.1 and correct this.
Command for the character length will be

SELECT CHAR_LENGTH("Fieldname") FROM "Table"

I will try it…

Hi @RobertG .

Your help is appreciated… story short it worked…

I can get back in…

I can only imagine that somehow my file had reverted to an older version… even though I was using the updated libre for the past 6 months with no issue…

I did have a secondary hard drive attached with an old Windows 10 install & quite possibly this had distorted the file while browsing… I have now removed that drive since…

But your knowledge has helped me unlock this mess…

Really appreciative of everyone’s help here trying to get me back on track…

Thankyou
