Libre Draw Can't Open ANY PDF.General input/output error(Ubuntu 24.04.1)

Hi!

When trying to open ANY PDF, Libreoffice Draw ALWAYS give the error:
“General Error.
General input/output error”

FS - BTRFS (internal SATA drive).

Group and user ownership is of current user.

In the journal the only (possibly) relevant lines I found after PDF file opening FAILS are:

gvfsd-wsdd[251353]: Failed to spawn the wsdd daemon: Failed to execute child process “wsdd” (No such file or directory)
gvfsd-network[177201]: Couldn't create directory monitor on wsdd:///. Error: Automount failed: Failed to spawn the underlying wsdd daemon.

Not sure if the above wsdd errors have any relevance yet.

Ubuntu 24.04.1
LibreOffice 24.2.6.2 420(Build:2)
Same behavior both for default v6.8 and mainline v6.11.11 stable kernels.

Again Draw gives the above error when opening literally ANY PDF.

Also tried debugging with --backtrace, there’s nothing in debug log when PDF opening fails.

No issues with opening any file in Libre Writer on same FS/drive.

Any advise how to troubleshoot?

Thank you!

Can you open your PDFs in a PDF reader?

Yes, I have 2 other pdf reader/tools - both open all PDFs on same FS/drive w/o any issue.

I was thinking of a special version of PDF in your files but if they all open in a PDF reader, this is a wrong path. You say it already happens with 6.8 and 6.11.x (which are very old releases). There may be a problem in your installation or perhaps with BTRFS.

If you partitioned your hard disk to separate (/boot,) /home and filesystem root /, you could try to reinstall Ubuntu from scratch without erasing /home (hoping there is no “glitch” in your documents), keeping your existing files. But if your HDD is not partitioned, you can’t do this.

“6.8 and 6.11.x” - are Kernel versions.
6.11.11 kernel was just built a couple weeks ago by Ubuntu.
6.8 kernel is default kernel in the most recent LTS 24.04 and is updated about every single week.
How are they “very old”?

If Draw doesn’t work well with BTRFS, there’s no sense to reinstall.

The question is how to troubleshoot why the error happens?
Every app opens any file without an issue besides Libre Draw.

I thought they were LO versions. I misread “stable kernels”. Sorry.

I didn’t meant the files suffered from from some bit errors. There might be a general kernel module somewhere or, perhaps, an FS snapshot which went wild. It is very strange that only Draw is affected.

There might be a general kernel module somewhere

There’s currently 51st version of kernel 6.8 from Ubuntu already, each of which comes with its own modules. I never had Draw working with any kernel on Ubuntu 24.04 (including manually installed 6.11.11).

There may be 1000 of causes, which one can only find by troubleshooting, but I cannot find anything relevant in journal.
May be there’s some other way to get debugging info or log, I couldn’t find any yet.
Actually couldn’t find any way to turn on logging (besides --backtrace).
I have no reason to suspect BTRFS/FS.

Do you possibly know how to fix this --backtrace error?

/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/gdbtrace:9: Error in sourced command file: No stack.
