Libre Impress - cut and paste text box results in Image not a text box

I had this problem on “LO Draw” when using copy/paste.

My kludgy solution was to select the object then used the “control” key to copy/drag a new version. Draw would keep the object as a graphic and did not turn it into a PNG.

I’m running Arch Linux/XFCE environment.

That is not realistic unfortunately as I am often moving text boxes from one Impress slide to another
I think this is a good use of the copy paste system when on the same page and has some advantages in speed and ease of use as I gather from other sources.

From other sources -

  • Some change the clipboard manager as it appears that xfce and Libre Office can be conflicted.
  • Some people change from xfce to other products that are further along the replacement of “the largely obsolete xfce” (I should have copied which of these is complete or moving away from xfce - sorry - no doubt an internet search for such would be easy.)
  • I also received a detailed way of adding code to bash files at startup but have yet to work out which file/location is best to set up environmental variables as it is different in each distro.

So, there is no clear cut and simple way to get out of the situation but I know I will not be updating software so readily in future.
If I make some progress I will let you knnow
