image description

Dear Sir/Madam,

I need your help. In my system Ubuntu 18.04 I have installed a previous version of Libreoffice. It worked perfectly and I like it very much. Than I installed libreoffice7.0.3. A the beginning it worked, now it does not.
Before disturbing I tried to remove and purge…and try again. But I was not able to solve!

Below the error when I try to launch from Terminal

At first I noticed that JRE was missing

try to launch from Terminal

Try to launch from terminal using option --safe-mode (i.e. libreoffice --safe-mode). If that works, then most probably your user profile is corrupt and you need to reset to factory settings, which can be performed through the dialog appearing on --safe-mode as well.

First of all let me thank you for your kind answer.

I have just tried. Libreoffice was not starting

libreoffice7.0 --safe-mode

Below the output:

Gtk-Message: 17:12:03.513: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.
LibreOffice 7.0 - Fatal Error: The application cannot be started.
Failed to updatefile:///home/u18/.config/libreoffice/4/user/extensions/bundled/lastsynchronized /home/buildslave/source/libo-core/desktop/source/deployment/manager/dp_extensionmanager.cxx:114

This time I saw something related to this file:

/home/u18/.config/libreoffice/4/user/extensions/bundled/lastsynchronized

Maybe I should cancel this file and try again?

If you have an idea let me know
Once again thank you

Lorenzo

This is error message is bit incomprehensible since --safe-mode is about using a temporary user profile not touching your actual profile. This is to evaluate whether a corrupt user profile could cause a problem observed. Now your error code is about /home/u18/.config/libreoffice/4/user/ which is part of the user profile. So it is touching your user profile, while this should not happen (safe mode). So my only conclusion (from a distance) could be:

  • You got the safe mode dialog
  • You did not try to continue with button Continue in Safe Mode but clicked Restart in Normal Mode

Please perform the following:

cd /home/u18/.config/libreoffice/
mv 4 4.bak

and try once more.

GREAT !!!
Now it’s working again.

I have no words to say thank you. I have been locked for days…now thanks to your help Is working.
Once again, thank you very much
Lorenzo

Once again, I wish to thank you for the time you are dedicating to my problem. I understand that is not easy to understand what is going on… in another pc.

I am not able to open the safe dialog Mode…Libreoffice seems to start…but than it stops. I have the error message, and if I close it, by clicking on OK button,

I have the final answer in the terminal which I have copied before.

Thank you very much

Lorenzo

For the records (according to OP’s last comment):

Please manually disable LibreOffice user profile using the following procedure

  • cd /home/u18/.config/libreoffice/
  • mv 4 4.bak

(though it is absolutely not clear why --safe mode depends on the current user profile)
