Libre Office 7 Calc. How do I set Backspace to Delete cell contents without Dialog Prompt?

  • I use a range of Excel and Google
Sheets in Work, and Calc at home.

In
previous versions of Calc, I have
done something to the settings to
allow the Backspace key on my
keyboard to automatically delete cell
contents without the dialog prompt
appearing asking what I would like to
delete. However…you guessed
it I cannot remember what I did. My
Google Fu may not be up to much but I
cannot seem to find the answer I am
looking for online. I realise that I
could press the delete key for the
desired result, however I would like
a informed workflow across all of my
apps if possible. Many thanks for any
guidance.

Use DEL key instead; but if you really want to ignore why there are two different functions assigned to different keys - see my answer below.

Hello,

the only way I’m aware of this to make happen is to change the shortcut for key Backspace from Clear Cells into Clear Contents:

  • Open Tools -> Customize...->Tab: Keyboard
  • Scroll down to entry Backspace in pane Shortcut Keys
  • Type Clear Contents into the Function text line
  • Click button Modify

and finally you get:

  • Click OK

Hope that helps.

That is perfect and has fully resolved my issue.
Many thanks!

If you consider your question answered, it would be nice, if you’d click the check mark (:heavy_check_mark:) next to the answer. Thanks in advance …
