Libre office calc cell values

I am selecting all cells in the spread sheet, and the font verdana, ranged left.

So why, when I return to the individual cells does the font revert to arial ranged right?

And why when I select the whole column as currency, then delete the contents is the cell formatting deleted too? That is extremely unhelpful - having to reformat cells every time I need to correct a small error.

Is there any way around these two problems? to save me having to repeatedly reformat fonts and cell values… Thanks

If you want all cells in the spreadsheet to use Verdana font then, in Sidebar > Styles (select Cell styles if Page or Drawing style is highlighted) right click the Default cell style, select the Font tab and select Verdana, OK.

If I have a column of numbers formatted as currency that I then delete, if I type a number in a cell in that column it will show as currency after exiting cell edit mode (press Enter). How are you deleting the cell contents?

You can create a cell style for currency in your spreadsheet

  1. Right click Default cell style in the Styles pane of the Sidebar and select New
  2. In the dialogue, in the General tab, give the style a name, e.g. NZD
  3. In the Numbers tab of the same dialogue, select your desired currency format, -$123.00 and OK
  4. Select a range you want formatted as currency then double click NZD in the list of cell styles.

Maybe related to (fixed) bug tdf#153527.

Perhaps because they decided it that way?

Regarding using the Styles panel - it doesn’t give any format font cells on a Mac. So working backwards from your answer: It works via the Format menu > Cells, although both currency and font I mentioned are already the default.

Which doesn’t answer the question as to why the currency format is deleted when the cell data is deleted - using the delete button. However, if I delete the cell contents via the ‘input line’ it doesn’t delete the format. That works.

Although, in respect of the set font default: Verdana, 10pt, ranged left, should not give a sum total of Arial, 10pt, ranged right. Surely?

This page should help a little but it has links to more information, especially the Calc Guide in Documentation, Cell Styles in Calc - The Document Foundation Wiki

This is on Windows but it is the same for Mac.
DefaultCell-EditStyle
In the dialogue that opens, select the Font tab and, in that, change the font to Verdana. OK

Important Note: manually setting the format of a cell overrides the cell style.

If the Default cell style is set to Arial, then yes it should. I don’t recommend aligning columns right or left as that is an instant indicator of whether a string of digits is numbers or text; numbers align right, text aligns left.
