Libre Office Database not linking to Java

Following a recent problem with Win 7 I have updated to Windows 10, however when I try to use the database in either Libre Office or Open Office, the program will not open the file because it either says that the JRE does not exist or it is faulty.

LibreOffice requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Advanced.

Nor will it crreate a new database for the same reason.

I’ve tried downloading and installing both the latest Java JRE and an older one (Version 7) with no success.

Nor will the program work with Java deselected.

I have information in this database that I urgently need to access. Any suggestions would be welcome.

This all worked fine on the same machine under Win 7.

Gary.

Is JRE shown in the options?

If not, press “Add” to add location where you have JRE stored.

You failed to mention what version of LO you are using. Newer versions (5.0.x +) require installation of JDK instead of JRE.

Hi

I have 5.1 & 5.2alpha with just JRE installed and have no issues.

JDK is used in the building of applications.

I believe it has to do with using Java written libraries (Base & macros). This same question has come up many times. Just do a search on ‘Java’ above.

Gary,
Make sure you are using the same bit-type JRE as the bit-type of your LibreOffice application. If you are using a 32bit LibreOffice application, then you need a 32bit JRE. If you are using a 64bit LibreOffice application, which I am assuming you are, you need a 64bit JRE. You can not mix and match between bit versions.
