Libre Office gone missing from my computer

I have been using Libre Office (LO) for years daily. Tonight, I didn’t see it among my “Most Used” apps, so I typed LO into search to bring it up, as I have done repeatedly over the years.

But tonight, the results were all from the web.

I looked for a LO file and opened it, but it turned into a MS Word file. I don’t have Word on my computer.

I’m hoping someone can tell me what to do to get all my files working again. Thanks.

There is always hope.
But as you did not tell even your operating system (Win10, Win11, Linux, wich linux distribution, MocOS, ChromeOS) it is just guestwork, so I would suggest updating your question or start to pray…
.
Also: Software is usually not keaving for holiday. So the question is, if there was any update to the OS or a Virus-Protection wich may have quarantained LibreOffice.
.
Third usually your file is not converted to word, but windows is known to forget sometimes who is registered to handle .odt and registering their own software to be called, if the file shall be opened.

Thanks for your comment. It’s Windows 10 PC.

I have good news. I called the virus protection people. They uninstalled and re-installed their app, and voila, LO appeared.

Now all is well again. Thanks again and have a great rest of the weekend.

If you would tell us the name of your AntiVirus-Software you may help some people returning Monday to their computers and having the same problem as you had.
.
As you already tagged your comment as solution, please update that comment as the solution will be shown directly below your question.

It’s not wise to give out what protection you’re using. You can make a hacker’s job much easier.

If anyone has problems, he or she will post and we’ll help him or her as much as we can.

All of us should get a good virus protector, and if their app caused the problem, they would work with us.

I’m lost. How do I update the comment? Thanks again.

Heh, “security through obscurity” taken even more wrong way than usual … but indeed your decision. Consider though, that it’s also “not wise” to answer others’ questions on sites like this, because it might undermine one’s ability to get money for this kind of service. Generally, asking questions, getting answers, and then showing unusual and unreasonable unwillingness to share innocent and helpful information back is … well, not community-friendly.

Security by obscurity is no reliable concept either.
Maybe I should not help anybody here - people could send me virus targeting my LibreOffice???

There is a symbol of a little pencil (only on your comments, and only, if you are logged in - otherwise discourse can’t know wich are your contents.

If that protective snake oil involves

They uninstalled and re-installed their app

them having administrative access to your machine then we don’t want to hear about it anyway. Thanks.
