Libre Office keeps crashing (7.3.0.3)

It took me a while to make this post because I had to do a refresh of my system first. While most of the problems I had cleared up, this one didn’t.

I load LibreOffice and then I open one of my already saved documents, a few moments later, it just crashes. I even tried to start a new document as it may have been some layout causing problems, but it also crashed before I could save it. The start up screen does not crash - it’s only when I try opening a document.

It works fine is safe mode, which is great since I was able to finish a book I had been writing, but it would be nice if I could not have to load safe mode every. single. time.

Any help is appreciated, but if you think it’s a bug, let me know and I’ll fill a report.

Try disabling hardware acceleration or resetting your user profile:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Help_wizard_.28LibreOffice_5.3_and_newer.29

It’s not the user file, it’s a fresh install. Just in case, I followed the instructions, and before I could clear the tips, it crashed.

As for hardware acceleration:

Yeah, I don’t think my computer supports that. I haven’t had a problem since I’ve installed the latest version.

Holy cow, never mind. You can disable the graphic acceleration running LibreOffice in safe mode.

And here I was, wasting at least an hour to try to figure out how to do it through windows.

Thanks for your help.

Instead of disabling hardware performance on your graphics card for everyone and everything, disable it for LibreOffice instead.

I was about to uninstall and go with another app but LIbreOffice has such a high rating I figured I would troubleshoot. My Write and Calc apps crash, hang, or go black and I have to blind Save the file.

  • LibreOffice 5.3 and newer:
    • Start LibreOffice in Safe Mode (open “LibreOffice (Safe Mode)” in the Windows start menu or run libreoffice --safe-mode in the Linux terminal).
    • Select “Configure” → “Disable Hardware Acceleration (OpenGL, OpenCL)”
    • Click “Apply Changes and Restart”

In your settings, you can configure LibreOffice to Disable OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulkan.
In the new Safe Mode box click “Configure”, Disable hardware acceleration, “Apply Changes and Restart” - restarts the app not your computer.

This didn’t work for me either :frowning: Any ideas for someone not entirely computer literate? Or do I have to take it to a computer guy??

Try testing with a new user profile, see LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki

this is pretty late, but maybe if you did this, you might do this:

For those who changed nvidia Global settings do this:

  1. Nvidia panel
  2. Add program or change the Global setting itself
  3. Change the Vsync - use 3d app settings.

maybe it helps
