Libre Office Versions

I have running LO quite happily for years and have now been invited to upgrade to either 24.2.2 or 7.6.6. This is the first time I have been aware that there are apparently 2 separate threads! What is the difference between 24 and 7, and - as a simple home user - is there a preferred choice for me?

There are no separate threads.

Last year, TDF (the body overseeing LO development) decided to change version numbering to make clearer the “uptodate-ness” of used version. 7.6.x are the last sequential version numbers.

It is intended to release two versions each year in February and August and they will be numbered YY.2.x and YY.8.x. The first such version for general public is 24.2.2.

As previously, x=0 or 1 in YY.M.x indicated an early release which may still exhibit bugs or instability. They are intended for testing by early adopters providing a larger debugging panel than the circle of beta testers.

I am looking to downgrade to some trade off version where I can get some good features, but go as far back as possible to go back on the increasing interativity regression I have been precieving. The documents I am now working with are very old well of the order of 10 years., and I kind of remember not having the same lagging experience with same size documents, (it does not matter anymore whether from word or odt), It seems that 24.8 is the worst. Windows 10 here.

Your graphics card was probably on the Deny List for OpenGL in version 6 and earlier.

You might want to create your own question if on Tools - Options - LibreOffice - View ticking Force Skia software rendering doesn’t work for you.
