Libre office (writer + calc) are running slow

hi all,

libre office (writer + calc) run really slow on my computer. computer meets the system requirements;
https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/system-requirements/#Linux

for both writer + calc i have auto saved turned on for every 10minutes (which doesn’t seem like too frequent for libre writer + calc to run slow)

writer + calc also crash alot. and then when i restart the computer, libre will do “document recovery”.

so you can guess my question now :slight_smile: ;

auto-save is useless right? if i turn it off and libre office writer/calc crashes, then won’t libre’s document recovery do its thing and recover any unsaved changes?

thx

this sucks!

You can tell LibreOffice to automatically save recovery information regularly, but that isn’t the same as saving your document. If you are used to saving your work every ten minutes or so, you don’t need the Save Autorecovery. I found it annoying that it will interrupt you when you are busy typing, and prefer to decide when Libre won’t accept my input. How often you save, is a personal matter. Saving large documents costs time, losing part of your work because of a crash costs time, you decide what’s more important.

I found that the latest versions of LibreOffice (7.4 maybe and certainly 7.5) take a while to start on my somewhat oldish desktop pc.

well that sucks. its 2023 and we can’t figure this out? did bill figure it out?
