This is the second document that contain images lost due to the “Read Error”
I left a file open for a day, and when I come back Libre asked to restore the file. I answered yes, and get “read error” instead of images.
The back up in back up directory (under roaming path is missing as well).
Would hate to get rid of the libre, but this is getting a big deal.
Please help.

I had the same problem: I did four things to get the image back. I cannot say it is 100%, but works many times:
(1) The network could be slow and then after a minute, the image appears.
(2) I copy the image at the source and paste it in the Writer document as Bitmap or svg image.
(3) I right-mouse-click on the area where the image gives the “Reading Error”: Then in the drop-down menu, I select “anchor” and anchor the image to paragraph. Anchoring the image to paragraph, causes the image to be displayed within the boundaries of the document.
(4) A fourth thing I tried: right-mouse-click on the area where the image gives the “Reading Error”: Then in the drop-down menu, I select “Arrange” and then select “Bring to front”.
