LibreOffice 26.2.0.3 Bug? with Windows 11 Pro [some files open in read-only mode]

You need to add LibreOffice or soffice.bin to the allowed list of your anti virus or anti ransomware program. I guess you have AVG or one of its clones

No. After extensive troubleshooting with an AI agent that actually took about SIX HOURS we were able to conclusively prove that this is a problem with LibreOffice release 26 that was reproducible on two computers. I appreciate your effort to be helpful- i really, truly do.

Right now, I’ve upgraded 25.8 to 26.2 on three Windows10 boxes and opened various documents from a network share and user’s directory. Everything works normally.

No, I use Windows defender. Everything works fine with LibreOffice release 25 on two machines. The problem occurs with release 26 on both. It’s only about a half dozen files that have the problem in release 26, and it’s the exact same files on two different computers. I spent SIX HOURS on this with an AI agent last night and today, and we confirmed that the problem has to be a software bug involving something in those particular files that release 26 does not like. The vast majority of the files we used work just fine. It involves three different text files and five different spreadsheet files out of over one hundred.

I am running Windows 11 Pro, not Windows 10.

menu:File>Properties>tab::Security has an option to open a document read-only independently of the file system permissions.

Did you try to start LibreOffice with a new profile folder?
Close LibreOffice.
Rename %APPDATA%\LibreOffice\4\user %APPDATA%\LibreOffice\4\user.bkp
LibreOffice starts with brand-new settings.
Open the files in question.

I don’t think that has anything to do with it. One was a new install on a new fresh Win11 installation, the other an update on man existing installation, both with the same problem on exactly the same files and no problems on the exact other st of files.

Are the files on OneDrive? Has LibreOffice 26.2 got permission to edit OneDrive files?
.
Copilot adds extra protections so it might be Copilot that makes it read only. The sensitivity labels get applied to derived documents so copying the contents also copies the sensitivity label. Microsoft 365 Copilot data protection architecture | Microsoft Learn
.
I don’t use OneDrive nor Copilot so cannot test.

[Edit]
Can you check the Document Classification, Classification Bar

I don’t use OneDrive or any part of Microsoft 365. Thanks

I’m experiencing the exact same issue on Windows 11 Home Edition / Version 25H2 / OS Build 26200.7840 and LibreOffice Version: 26.2.0.3 (X86_64) / Build ID: 620 (Build:3).

In the Forms Browser, all root forms and subforms have the Add, Edit, and Delete permissions set to ‘No’ and are inaccessible (grayed out).

Adding an exclusion in Windows Defender doesn’t change anything.

So I’m going to revert to the previous version.

I am sorry you are having the problem, but glad to see I’m not the only one. Using LibreOffice portable version for those files allows me to use them on an right-click open with problem free.

What happens when you open one of these files and save it under a different name? Do you have write access to the new file?

No. The file still opens as read only. I understand from CoPilot a lot of people are now experiencing this.

Is it tdf#170615? also tdf#170297

Sorry. I don’t understand your question

Sorry, I meant maybe it is either of those. I asked the question because 170615 is about Samba shares however the second bug report is wider regarding network shares.

My post has nothing to do with shares.

The description was similar to your initial question.

When the document was changed LO asks for save before close. Even if the user decides to save the document or not the file attribute “readonly” is set. The next time the document can be opened only readonly.
In case the user decides to “Save as” not the original file but the saved as document gets the file attribute readonly.

It would be best to create a bug report, How to Report Bugs in LibreOffice - The Document Foundation Wiki and post the number back here in the same format, tdf#1123456
.
You can downgrade to an earlier version, e.g. 25.8 by uninstalling the current version and then installing the older version

Same problem here. Some files are locked in read only mode, and can’t be saved. This was started after the upgrade of Libre Office v 26.2.0.3
Libre Office : 26.2.0.3 (X86_64)
OS : Windows 11 Pro 25H2 built 26200.7840

A lot of people are having this problem > deleted the new LibreOffice update and went back to the last one.
