LibreOffice 7.5 will not run, no error messages (LINUX)

Hello all

I suspect I made a small error. I did tun on OpenGL rendering in options, hoping for maybe a little bit better performance (well, it showed me).

However, my (rather) large Calc file crashed. I have not been able to start LO at all after this. Nothing of LO applications work.
Running LO in terminal has the terminal hanging as long as I have it open. No errors,
Even

libreoffice --safe-mode

returns nothing and application does not start.

I have tried to uninstall/reinstall, I have tried deleting all LO directories in between uninstall/install. Rebooted and I am currently out of ideas.

I would love to be able to open any LO application so I can uncheck OpenGL render, but it seems to me I will have to find the correct config file and turn that off. That is something I rarely need to do.

Any idea what to do next would be very appreciated.

Recently moved to Arch Linux with GNOME DE and I am still getting the grips of it.

You didn’t mention your desktop manager (Gnome, KDE Plasma, MATE, Xfce, LxQt, … ?). There should be system settings utility to access Compositor parameters. Try to disable OpenGL system-wide or even the compositor and reboot. Does it allow you to enter LO?

Sorry forgot about that, I am running Gnome, will add that in the post.

I am looking for the correct method of disabling OpenGL system-wide.

Seems like Wayland doesn’t use OpenGL… still trying to confirm that.

@ajlittoz

Did managed to start LO in safe mode, tried disabling OpenGL and now I get this error

libreoffice --safe-mode
javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!
Warning: failed to read path from javaldx

Yeah, tried running libreoffice --safe-mode again, and now it just hangs there without any messages.

You don’t need any Java Runtime Environment unless you use certain database features or certain extensions programmed in Java.
Simply install some Java from your package manager and everything should be fine with all extensions and special Java features. However, you must never ever install any flatpak, snap or other container bullshit. LibreOffice in a sandbox is isolated from the operating system and requires more configuration effort than a regular installation.

I do have java installed, up to date and all. So this error doesn’t make any sense to me.

I installed LO from package manager, so no sandbox or anything.

If you installed the latest version from a package manager, it might be a container. We still don’t know your distribution.

Arch Linux with Gnome DE, actually last line in my original post

To be 100% sure, I am going to install reinstall java

This is not Windows… Reinstallation of any program replaces some bytes with the exact same bytes. You should consult an Arch Linux resource about the problem.
Again, A fresh install of LibreOffice does not require a single byte of Java to provide 99% of its functionality. LibreOffice is not programmed in Java.

I do know, but I was using the solver that does require Java.

For the life of mine, I am not seeing what went wrong… Will consult with Arch forum to see if they can help.

After some time, I managed to initialize safe mode again. Found out that “Render with OpenGL” was still checked. Managed to uncheck it and restart LO. This time it works.
