Libreoffice already running -- how to see preview of "recent documents" (like startup screen)?

I’m running on an Ubuntu Precise 64-bit system.

When cold-starting LibreOffice (script “libreoffice4.3”) I get a screen which shows a nice thumbnailed preview of my recently accessed documents.

– edited slightly --:
While having some documents already open and trying to “start libreoffice again” from the system menu I’d prefer to be again able to access that same initial preview screen – but instead some already existing libreoffice window will be chosen.

Is there a solution to access the initial preview again?

If yes, it would be nice to have some kind of emphasis on those preview thumbnails that already are open in some window.

Closing old windows and cold-restarting libreoffice is usually not an option because of a need to compare and edit multiple files at the same time.

Note: the “File->Recent Documents” list is usually of no use to me, because I’m managing tens of documents, and the names alone do not often carry enough information for choosing the right file. The files need to reside in very many different directories, so I think using some filesystem browser and its preview capabilities is not an option.

Thanks in advance for any insights,

as far as i know there is no option to see the start up screen thumbnails when libreoffice is already running.
