LibreOffice Calc - insert Tables without affecting current rows & columns

I want to insert a table into a LibreOffice Calc document, but I want to do it without influencing or changing the current rows and columns of the Calc document (which are perfect for the other info in there). Is that possible?

My current document has 5 columns that is made to be printed on an A4 sheet. The table I want inserted will be spanning just one of those columns but the rows and columns in the table will be numerous.

I don’t use Calc to actually calculate anything. I use it as a presentation tool to arrange things nicely using its flexible rows and columns, but the table I want inserted has rows and columns that are different to the document. I know I can insert a graphic of the table, but I’d prefer to just create a new table from scratch in Calc and put the data I want in it and all it a day, without worrying about graphics resolutions, etc. I have tried for a couple of days to find a solution, but maybe I am asking for something it cannot do, because I haven’t been able to get this done.

Thanks for any help.

You cannot split a column in Calc to have “subcolumns” in some area.

Thanks for responding, mikekaganski. I was sort of hoping I could create a (higher-density, thinner rows and columns) table in Calc and have it ‘float’ over the rows and columns like graphics do, but I was kind of suspecting what I was asking couldn’t be done.

Not to worry, I will just create the graphic elsewhere. Thanks for confirming things for me.
