LibreOffice crashed while copy/pasting, recovered document is completely empty. How can I restore the document?

MacOs Monterey Version 12.3.1
LibreOffice Writer Version 7.2.6.2

While working on a document, I attempted to copy one portion of text and paste it over another. This immediately caused the program to crash. LibreOffice offered to save and recover the file, but upon opening the saved and recovered file, I found that the document was completely empty and it saved nothing.

LibreOffice’s “backup” folder is empty, and the temporary file in the “temp” folder is also a blank document.

Is there any way to recover my work?

If you have not made backup copies yourself beforehand, there will probably be no rescue of data.

For your future action, I recommend you to create additional backup copies. See also:

I found an earlier version of the document in the “temp” folder, but it had a .tmp filename extension rather than .odt. Changing the extension to .odt properly recovered the document.

Thank you for your help!
