Sounds like you’re running out of Random Access Memory (RAM). What OS are you using? You can check the available RAM in OS X using the Activity Monitor application. In Windows 7, the Help says that the Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt +Del > Start Task Manager) will show memory usage but it’s not listed on my locked down corporate laptop.
