LibreOffice menus are not available in i3wm when using LibreOffice 6.0.7.3 on Ubuntu 18.04

When I open LibreOffice writer in the default Ubuntu 18.04 desktop, the normal menus are visible and working. However, when I log in to the i3 window manager, there are no menus visible. Pressing F6 will activate the toolbar, but it won’t provide access to the menus. For example, when menus are visible, if one presses F6, then F, the file menu drops down. But even this method doesn’t provide menu access in the i3 window manager.

Any solution is welcome!

For some reason, which I don’t now remember, I had put the following command in the config file for i3:

exec_always --no-startup-id unity

When I edited the i3 config file to comment out that command, the problem was solved and LibreOffice menus returned!
