LibreOffice updated to different version than what was downloaded

I updated from LibreOffice version 24.2.6 to 25.8.1, which did get downloaded to the Windows Download file.

However after updating the program itself indicates version 25.2.5.2. Where did that come from?

Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features still shows the old program 24.2.6.2.

Any idea what is going on?

Should i just install 25.8.1 over whatever version I have?

Definition of terms relating to Windows

Download:
Downloading simply means that a downloaded version of LibreOffice is saved in the download folder. This has no effect on the program itself.
Update:
An update is complete when the downloaded installation files are launched with a double-click and the installation process is completed.

You can therefore install version 25.8.1.

Maybe new MAR updates

LO was updated to 25.2.5.2. But 25.8.1 was downloaded as part of the update process.

I did click on update & was taken to the main LO home page where & I selected vers, 25.8.1 which did get downloaded to the Windows Download folder. LO then automatically started doing an update.

During updating several different versions were briefly displayed on the screen, as if the program was updating version step by version step. I’m not sure if the screen said installing or updating. But when the program finished it’s process I now had vers 25.2.5.2 on my PC.

Why wasn’t the program updated to 25.8.1? Version 25.2.5.2 is not in the Windows Download folder.

How come Windows Programs and Features still show the old program 24.2.6.2?

Obviously I’d like to know what the heck happened.

Is it safe to install vers 25.8.1 over the existing vers?

Did you read the bug report I linked to in your earlier question Automatic update schedule settings for LibreOffice? - #12 by EarnestAl ?

Yes I read it. It talks about langauge-switching in versions I’m not using. Did not appear to have anything to do with my issue.

Comment 14 in the other bug says that Windows registry is not updated to the correct version. It is a bug in the Mar updater.
Anyway the bug I linked to was Bug 164043 - [MAR] After MAR-update, Windows keep old release number in Settings and registry

For now I would turn off automatic updates

I downloaded vers 25.2.6.2 & doubled clicked to install it. (I did not use the LO update process because it doesn’t do anything).

After the install it said to Restart the PC, which I did. I did not do that before because it never indicated to do so.

LibreOffice now indicates it is vers 25.2.6.2 and also Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features now says 25.2.5.2.

No big deal, I’ll just download & double click in order to update.
