LibreOffice V7.3 Not "Seeing" Document I want to print

I have been using LibreOffice for a long time on my Macs, and have never had an issue, until V7.3. Whenever I have upgraded LibreOffice to the latest version, what I do is 1) remove the prior version from the Applications folder only by dragging it to the trash, and 2) drag the new version to the Applications folder. The new version “finds” all my settings, etc. for LIbreOffice, including whatever is there for my printer attached to my M1 Mac Mini (also for any prior Mac Mini I had been using, and no matter what Mac OS (recent ones)). V7.3 of LibreOffice came out recently, and I upgraded to it from V7.2.5 (using Monterey on the Mini, with a Canon printer attached). All seemed well, but when I opened a document (either with Writer of Calc) and selected Print, it shows just a blank page to print. This has never, never happened before. So, I have gone back to V7.2.5, and it functions as expected, ie, selecting a document to print shows the document in the Print dialogue screen, and of course it prints fine.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Bug tdf#146842 . Skia will be disabled by default in version 7.3.1.
In the meantime you can disable Skia in LibreOffice > Preferences > LibreOffice > View and under Graphics Output untick Use Skia for all rendering or similar.

Thanks. I’ll just wait for V7.3.1. BTW, what is Skia? Also, why did this issue all of a sudden occur? As I mentioned above, never had any issues when I have upgraded.

As far as I understand it, it is a cross-platform graphics engine to help with rendering by using the graphics processing unit. It is a replacement for OpenGL which was the previous engine. Like its predecessor, it does not play nicely with all graphics cards/drivers yet.

There was a denylist for OpenGL for those cards known to have issues with OpenGL, I assume one might be created for Skia eventually.

OK, thanks. Too bad it was not tested enough. No “disaster”, though, as V7.2.5.2 works good enough for me.

There already is.

Nothing can be tested “enough” until it reaches wide testing on release. That’s what .0 releases are for, and that’s why two branches - less stable vs. more tested - are maintained.

@akent ,

Too bad it was not tested enough.

This assumes that you can deal with any problems, so if necessary, e.g. set or remove a flag somewhere. Or in case of a problem to contact this ask page or to file a bug on Bugzilla.

If this is too strenuous for you, you are right with the also current, but longer tested version.

In the past, I never had any issues with the “.0” release and especially a basic one about not “seeing” a page I want to print via the print dialogue.

It’s not strenuous to use it! I am actually not seeing anything in that release which is evident or earth shattering, but I always prefer to be on the latest, stable release.

Oh well, again I can wait for V7.3.1, without any stress. It works just fine.
