Libreoffice Writer cannot open a file. “General error. General input/output error”

When I try to open a Libreoffice Writer file, this error appears: “General error. General input/output error”.

What should I do? I need to open it.

I searched in Google and tried some of what I read (for example, changing the file extension) but it did not work. I am confused.

My OS is Ubuntu 12.04 and the version of Libreoffice is 4.0.4.2.

Solution: Use Abiword and open the file.

Are you using non-English characters in the filename? If so, rename to English characters. Also, I would suggest LibreOffice update. If the problem remained, update the post with new data please.
