LibreOffice Writer: Crash and Autosave is off by default

I installed LO Writer because I was to lazy to renew my Microsoft Office License. After some hours of working on a document LO Writer crashed and the autosave feature is off by default. What the Hell. Just ventig here and going back to Microsoft Office, which almost never crashes and even if it does, has a working autosave on for the worst scenario. With issues like thise LibreOffice will never be relevant. (Yes im really salty rn)

Too bad your first impression is so bad.
You can write a feature request on Bugzilla to adjust the default setting.
But basically, the driver has the responsibility, not the car.

I think you would be best to have somebody else like Microsoft 365 or Google look after your data.
If you can’t save early and save often then your data is less safe than when a third party can access your data and save it for you

Unbelievable this did not improve at all. Needed to vent too!

@noyb2day ,
The only sensible way to vent is Bugzilla. Feature requests and bugs can be entered there.

Same here - just happened to me too - absolute waste of the last two hours edits/my life.

I can perhaps support you in this respect and inform you that from the new version 24.2 “Always create backup copy” and “Save information for automatic restore every xx minutes” are now preset.

Irrespective of this, you are responsible for your own data backup procedures. You should therefore carefully consider how you can minimize the loss of data.
You can find information on this here:

Preventing data disaster

Thank you for what comes across as a fairly patronising response. Whilst it is good to hear that version 24.2 has a new default setting, it would perhaps be better to hear that Libre Office is now more stable and less prone to crashing.

Why did LibreOffice crash? Was it an operating system reboot? Or just while you were working?
