Libreoffice writer freezes every time I save the file. What am I supposed to do?

I’m using LibreOffice 6. I have the habit of hitting ctrl-s often. My document, the one I’m currently composing contains 26 pages and a few equations and diagrams in it. It has 6 figures, which are OLE objects I created using LibreOffice 6 drawing (insert-> object-> OLE object->LibreOffice 6 drawing). I have LibreOffice 5 installed in a different system, which saves the same file faster. Is it possible for me to improve the saving time of LibreOffice 6 or should I revert to version 5? The file size is just 367 kB .

The save time for a document in the system that runs LibreOffice 6 is nearly 10 seconds, each time I hit ctrl-s. And until the save process is completed, I won’t be able to write anything (i.e., the save process does not happen in parallel). My processor is intel-i7 and contains 8 threads. The processor speed is 4.2 GHz. The RAM size is 16 GB.

My OS: Ubuntu 16.04

Details in the about section:

Version: 6.0.4.2
Build ID: libreoffice-6.0.4.2-snap1
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 4.13; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;
Locale: en-IN (en_IN); Calc: group

This release was supported by Canonical.

Do you use LibreOffice from Ubuntu team or from TDF?

What’s TDF? (Sorry if this question was too naive. I don’t have much experience using Ubuntu or LibreOffice. I have just shifted from windows).

If you just installed Ubuntu and just use LibreOffice, then you use LibreOffice from Ubuntu team

Once I had to add watermark to my document. So I had to download the LibreOffice version 6 from the official site (which had that feature). I followed all the instructions, by uninstalling the existing one first before installing the newer one.

I suspected that this might be the problem. Thus I again uninstalled the existing application, the one I installed directly from the official site and followed the steps here (the chosen answer), to reinstall it. The steps highlighted in that answer still keeps installing the 6th version and saving files still remain slow.

ah…snap package…

try install LO 6.0.4 from deb packages from site of TDF Donate to LibreOffice | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Based on OpenOffice - Compatible with Microsoft

or try find PPA with LibreOffice, enable it and and update your system

I just installed from the link you gave me (after uninstalling the previous one. I also tested if the previous one was fully uninstalled by clicking on a document, which opened in an archive manager instead). It still takes time to save the file. By the way, I’m using Genome with Ubuntu.

From the about section: Version: 6.0.4.2

I reverted back to version 5.4. I think the version 6 is not ready to be used yet. It works fine in version 5.4

Hi,
I have Ubuntu 18.04 and an official libreoffice 7.0.1.2 from snap package and I’m still experiencing the same freeze effect saving documents. My pc has a I7 processor with 8 cores and 16 GB of RAM.
How could I solve this issue?

I solved the problem of “slow-saving” and “slow start-up” by reverting back to version 5.4. My guess is, as the download page in the official site says here, the version 6 is not yet ready to be used by everyone. Thus, it must be quite obvious to expect glitches like these (please correct me if I’m wrong). Thus, I’m now using the recommended version, at the time of writing this answer. Everything is perfect now.
