I apologize for not giving some relevant information along with the post. It might have helped to narrow down the assist tips. Everyone’s time is valuable and shouldn’t be wasted.
First of all my degree is in Computer Science. I spent 25 years coding, design and management before retiring. I have run into all kinds of issues (bugs, design decisions, etc.) and do not consider this a bug, but rather the way the software was designed. And please note I am not saying the design was wrong. I believe the design was intended to help users in their editing by placing the edited area in the center of the screen (or towards the top) to allow users to see the impact of their editing.
I have been using various Word Processors for over 52 years. The previous one to LibreWriter was MS Word for over 15 years. I usually edit large documents in preparation for converting them to PDF’s. The current one is 167 pages. LibreOffice is absolutely a great package. I use Writer and Calc frequently, realize their differences relative to Microsoft’s packages and accomplish what I want to do just as easily as I did with MS software. In fact I even recommend LibreOffice to others that currently use MS.
I will attempt to answer each help post below.
Hbrgr: I don’t consider this a bug. Perhaps an option in settings to allow override of the design. I always keep my software up to date. Current version is 24.8. I have done most of the stuff in the link you gave me. No changes.
Jedimaster: The answer to your question is yes. I am aware what editing with word processors do. In fact, I count on the software to do exactly that. p.s. Being a Star Wars fan, I love the handle.
Mariosv: I have attempted to recreate the issue, but have not been able to.
Let me try to describe what happens. I am editing a file, moving around quite well and scrolling in all directions without any problem.
- I may notice a word misspelled or I want to highlight some text.
- The word/text is at the bottom of the page.
- I click next to the letter that is wrong or at the start of the text that I want to highlight.
- The screen shifts to about the center and lets me continue with the edit. The focus changes unexpectedly and I have to search for the spot I was editing.
- Furthermore, this does not happen consistently, which is why I can’t recreate it.
- A screen copy only gives the after results. A screen copy of the before is impossible to capture.
Thanks for your attempted help. I appreciate the effort.
