List headings & subheadings on right or left sidebar possible?

I am writing aVERY large document and I need:

1. To display a left or right sidebar with the headings showing up that allows me to jump to each chapter via the headings link in a potential sidebar listing them
   Does this existin LibreOffice and IF yes, how do I do it?

Enable the Navigator in the side pane or F5 to pop-up a Navigator window, then dock it left or right.

In the Navigator, expand the Headings section. You can jump to any heading with a double-click.

Note this feature works only when your headings (chapter, sub-chapter, …) are assigned an appropriate paragraph style. Usually, this means using built-in Heading 1 for chapters, Heading 2 for sub-chapters, …
