When I am using a list format, the top-level automatically indents one Tab. I would like the top-level to start aligned with the left side of the page as with default text, not tabbed. How may I do this? Thanks.

Please, illustrate your question with an example so that we understand clearly what you want to do. Are you talking about the multi-level property of any list? Mention also OS name and save format. Tell us also how you create your lists; manually, toolbar buttons, syles, … ?
Change the formatting of the list style in the Styles deck of the Sidebar.
As direct formatting: choose menu Format - Bullets and Numbering - Position tab.
