I would be inclined to trace precedents from the non-working cell and work methodically through to identify where the problem starts. Looking at the help for the failing formula, or using the formula editor might offer the solution.
If you have macros embedded in the sheets then they probably won’t work, you could try enabling VBA support and seeing. Microsoft Office 4 macros might still exist in old documents, these might have to be rewritten.
