LO 7.2.2 filter fonts? How to create this feature?

If LO is open source, then how to add a feature?

Problem:
LO write shows ALL fonts installed in the desktop.

Desired:
I want LO to show only the fonts I set as default for LO.
I want LO to filter out any and all fonts not desired when using LO.

Reason for problem:
Ubuntu installs all fonts for all Asian countries: about 500 fonts. Added to this, certain apps install their own fonts. Thus, I have about 490 unwanted fonts, about 10 relevants fonts, and 0 fonts desired for compatibility with other systems such as Mac.

The work-around to this is to remove all font files from the relevant directory, and replace with desired font files. This works only when all apps use the desired fonts. When an app has a custom font, the system breaks.

The main problem is the Ubuntu install: all the undesired fonts, which cannot be avoided during install. But adding a font-filter default feature to LO would be very beneficial for all persons for all languages for all regions.

Thank you.

“Problem:
LO write shows ALL fonts installed in the desktop.”

Is it a real problem?
Uninstall the unwanted items.

you miss the point.

You can filter the Styles.

If once you set the desired fonts for the Styles in a template, you not needed use the full font list. Just apply the Style what you want to use.
The Styles is the most valuable feature of the LibreOffice. Use it.

You can filter the

  • applied Styles
  • custom Styles
  • all of the Styles
  • automatic Styles
  • …and there are many more items in the Stylist on the Side Bar

Thank you for comment. But this is a not a solution.

If you have developer skills, then you can modify the source code of the LO, because the LO is an open source office suite.
Or you can create your own font list and your own formatting panels by writing macros (even you can write an extension…)
Or you can report a request for the developers. Then wait a few Weeks… Months… Years…

In my opinion you are trying to shift a problem, too many fonts in the system, to LibreOffice.
Most programs work in such a way that they take the fonts from the operating system and possibly bring their own fonts.
And you write yourself:

The main problem is the Ubuntu install: all the undesired fonts,…

So IMHO it is not a problem specific to LibreOffice.

Furthermore, you are overlooking the fact that this website is almost exclusively operated by users.
You must assume that a user cannot provide you with features that are not available in LibreOffice.

The only thing left for you to move forward is to file a feature request on Bugzilla.

How to Report Bugs (and feature requests) in LibreOffice

@Zizi64
thank you for the options presented and answering @robgrune’s question:

No, this is the solution. Writer is intended to be driven by styles. The font menu is used only with direct formatting. If only ~10 fonts are relevant for you, design your style set. This means you are able to structure your thought and translate it into the document architecture.
