Hi. Among optional components are “alien image formats”. Since I do ordinary word processing and spreadsheet calculations up to simple regression but no image processing, do I need this, please ?
Thanks, o.g.
The affected filters are listed in module_graphicfilter.ulf (revision 63e43c1d) - OpenGrok cross reference for /core/scp2/source/graphicfilter/module_graphicfilter.ulf.
They are:
- Adobe Photoshop Import Filter
- TGA Import
- EPS Import/Export Filter
- XPM Export Filter
- Portable Bitmap Import/Export
- SUN Rasterfile Import/Export
- AutoCAD Import
- Kodak Photo-CD Import
- Mac-Pict Import/Export
- OS/2 Metafile Import/Export
- PCX Import
- TIFF Import/Export
- SVG Export
In general, I doubt the reasonability of disabling it, and making it optional. It may happen at any time, that a document you received contains a TIFF…
Dear Mr Kaganski
Thank you for a perfect answer.
However I find it hard to think of an occasion when someone would send me a TIFF file, or a PCX file or an AutoCAD import: and if they should, I expect they would explain what to do with it.
So all this stuff is completely irrelevant for me, who work mainly on econometrics and literature.
But thanks again, and amazingly speedy.
Best, o.g.
No, they won’t send you a TIFF. What they will send you will be a DOCX, where on some page they pasted an image they copied from a web page, as an illustration to the text; and they wouldn’t even know what format that image was - it just displayed OK when pasted into the document. And you would also not know why the image doesn’t show in the document when you open it.
Dear Mr Kaganski
I am duly chastened. However not being able to see embeddded pictures is the least of my worries.
Thanks again, o.g.
