Loading LibreOffice During System Startup

Hi @ Ask LibreOffice

I want to load LibreOffice during system startup. I am using version 24.8.6.2 x64 on Windows 11. I want to speed up loading of files they are a tad slow in loading.ods files.

There is a LO Tools>options>General>LibreOffice QuickStarter>Load LibreOffice tick box during Start-Up option. This option doesn’t stay ticked when I click apply and OK restart LibreOffice. Similarly If I follow the same procedure and Re-Start Windows.

Questions

  1. What am I doing wrong and how can I achieve my aim?
  2. I have a feeling that the Quickstart option was dispensed with way back. If so why is it showing as an option?

Thank you for your help

This option was never “dispensed with” on Windows; possibly you remember it being removed from Linux (it happened in v.6.1), and that confused you.

From your description, you are doing it as intended. Please check if the feature is installed (but I would assume, that when not installed, it shouldn’t be available…)
Also: is your LibreOffice installed to the default directory (in Program Files)? What is the path of its installation? It should work in any place, but if it fails, I would check if there’s some bug handling some corner case paths… which reminds me to also check your user profile path, too.

Basically, the feature controls (creates / removes) a simple shortcut to quickstart.exe in the user’s Startup directory (%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup). The questions are, (1) if it actually creates it, and (2) if the created shortcut works. And here I may have another guess: may it be, that your system somehow prevents apps from running? Check your system’s Startup app.

Hi @ mikekaganski

Thanks very much for that, it’s appreciated. It gave me the steps to a solution.

Solution:- For some inexplicable reason Quickstart.exe wasn’t installed.

You saved me a whole lot of reading.
