Whenever I open Libre Office, I get a message telling me that I need to recover some files. Doing this is simple and straightforward. However I’d rather that the program would not create these files. The files have the form .~lock.filename.ods# for a Calc file. I do delete these files regularly, but they keep recurring. They appear in “My documents” in Windows 10 just following the folders but preceding the individual files not in folders. Can you provide any ideas for eliminating the creation of these files?
There are two parts to your question:
LibreOffice has not been shut down properly, or is not shutting down properly; this is the important issue.
At the end of your session, close all LibreOffice windows before shutting the computer down. This gives time for LibreOffice to save its state and to close the files correctly. If there is a problem within LibreOffice you should see an indication by an error message or something as the windows close; make a note of the exact wording.
If there is no error message but your work files still need to be recovered on opening LibreOffice then it might be an issue with your user profile, try with a temporary profile, see LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki.
These are not the files that LibreOffice is recovering; they are ones that are normally deleted on closing each file or when LibreOffice closes properly. They are lock files, their purpose is to notify another user that the file is opened by someone else and prevent them from editing a file that is already open elsewhere. The fact that they are left behind is an indication that LibreOffice has not shut down properly.
