Lost my progress by moving document to another location

I Lost my progress by moving document to another location! It was currently open, but I first clicked into middle of document and ctrl+s, then closed it, then I moved with moving the file! Any way to recover its contents?

Thanks!

Please give more details on what you’ve done. Don’t forget to mention OS name (and also LO version) since recovery procedure may depend with OS.
A priori, since you moved the file after saving it, it must be complete and consistent. As you moved it manually, you should know where you put it. What happens when you double-click on the file icon?
“Lost” may also be related to the way you open the file. If you select it from the “recent file list” (either through a menu or from an icon in the “start center”), the path in the recent file list no longer reflect the file path because it was moved outside LO. The file is then not “lost”, only the path in the list no longer is valid.

I didn’t do anything more. Windows 10 Pro x64 21H2 19044.1706.

That’s why I did double clicked on icon to where I moved it and couple pages are missing! It didn’t even try to recorver!

I never said file was lost. But couple pages missing

Your description is a bit like a black hole in the universe.
Something has been swallowed up and you have done nothing.
There can be no reasonable answer to that.

I can only give you the advice

  1. to consider your actions carefully in the future.
  2. create a backup architecture for yourself.

Preventing data disaster

What? I told you exactly what I did, there is nothing more I can say…

I had open the document in libre office and didn’t realize it. I move it to another location (while it was open). I realized it and clicked in middle of document to put it on foreground and ctrl+s. Then I closed it, it didn’t show pop out to warn you to save it. Then I proceeded with moving file. Then I double clicked on it in location to which I moved it and that’s it!

My test:
I open a file with text.
I add text.
I go to the file manager and move the file to another directory.
A message comes up. “File is used” (1).
I go into Writer and click “Save”.
The file has not been moved.

Result:
The added text is there.

With me:

Version: 7.3.3.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: d1d0ea68f081ee2800a922cac8f79445e4603348
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: de-DE
Calc: CL

I said I moved file after I saved it.

More important, you wrote you moved after closing (and usually your OS will prevent moving before). After closing LibreOffice can not access your file.

Either your theory (data lost by moving) is wrong, or LibreOffice it not the culprit. But your data may be lost before you saved.

Anyway: The only way back is if you have a previous copy, either from a backup-system you use or from an activated option to save copies with every save.

The options to recover files after unexpected terminaton can not recover older versions than the last save.
