Downloading and installing on my unstable Windows 7 was easy, which I had to do because somehow my MS Office suite got damaged. Now, with my Mac Catalina laptop, it won’t install unless I am not used to installing on the Mac OS. On Windows it was always a click on an installation program. Now, on Mac, there is an icon that gets dragged to an App icon which only opens the App store. Then a search on the App store brings up LibreOffice Vanilla, which costs 7.99. Is that what I am supposed to install? I thought this was open source.
Finally I learned to drag the installation file to the Applications folder; and it’s done. Now, is there a desktop publishing program available here similar to MS Publisher? Mine was new in 2010. Probably rather than continue to use it I should retire it. Thanks to all who viewed this thread. Probably the other members thought I should have figured out the original question. Also, from the few previous, failed installations, a document from this site got into my iCloud. It’s shortcut is on my desktop; and it won’t delete. The contents of this are Twitter conversations which I have no need of; so, I don’t need this shortcut creating an eyesore on my desktop. Anyone know how to delete it? robleyd, I saw the instructions on the site, had to look elsewhere for clearer directions. Afterward, I opened up the Applications folder into which to drop the installer while previously I dragged it to the App Store icon. Is Scribus by the same company as LibreOffice? After I weigh whether to use either the beta or the stable versions, I will probably use it. Thanks. Now, I wish I could get this remnant of my desktop. It is a shortcut to the document “Mastodon - Latest Tweets,” which ended up in iCloud after a couple of failed attempts to install LibreOffice.
The installation instructions for MacOS are a useful reference.
There is no DTP component in LibreOffice; however you might find Scribus to be a suitable application.
Is Scribus by the same company as LibreOffice? There seems to be a connection. I will have to weigh whether to use the beta or the stable versions. Now, I wish I could get rid of this remnant of the previous installation attempts, the document “Mastodon - Latest Tweets,” that I cannot delete. It is a shortcut, the document having ended up in iCloud. Thanks for getting back. After a restart, that Mastodon document deleted into the Trash folder. I guess in that regard where restarting sets everything back to normal, Mac systems have that in common with Windows. Thanks again.
“Is Scribus by the same company as LibreOffice?”
No
Scribus will not install on this computer. It requires updates. I cannot get the updates without signing up for a bunch of email alerts from the site that provides the download. The Scribus team requires an account to communicate with the team, which is too much to ask for a company that is not yet doing anything for me.
