Mail Merge - drag and dropping fields not working

Using most current version - 4.4.xxxxxxx with Windows 7

I created an address list and have tried mail merge both with a spreadsheet and a database.

After registering the data sources, I brought up a new writer document and viewed & selected data source.

When I drag the header name from the source to the writer document, it appears like a copy/paste.
That is, it is NOT shaded and does not have the bracketing <> symbols.

And merge does not pull the information.

Help?

I’m guessing that this issue has been solved since the question was posted back in 2015?
