Mail merge email with gmail 2-Step Verification

As Google has introduced 2-Step Verification for accounts how does one enable mail merge to be able to send emails?
I know you can apply an app-password specific to LibreOffice, and I have tried that but in vain.
I’m running Libreoffice on Windows 10.

Does anyone have a solution?

Use a real, locally installed E-mail client software, like the Thunderbird. That will work with the mail merge feature.

No, I don’t think so. Mail merge uses its own setup independently from any other client. When you call menu:File>Send>… As Email Thunderbird pops up with a new email window.
