I am running Windows 8 and the math input panel says that it is compatible with libre office, but when I click insert, the equation that i have written will not paste into my libre document… I am doing alot of Calculus and I have to type TONS of formulas so it makes life so much easier to be able to write them on my screen quickly and just insert them into my paper, but it won’t insert!!! So Frustrating! Please Help!!
Yes, the Math Input Panel (MIP) uses MathML to transfer the equation into the receiving application, but there’s no way to save the MathML from the MIP. The only option is Insert, and the application directly beneath the MIP must understand MathML as a clipboard format (i.e., you can’t paste it into a text-only app like Notepad, nor into an app like Libre Office Writer that doesn’t understand the MathML Presentation clipboard format).
Not all is lost though. MathType works with LibreOffice, and since MathType understands MathML, you can use the MIP with it! See MathType works with LibreOffice and MathType works with the Windows Math Input Panel.
I may have a different solution for you too, that also involves MathType. If you’re interested, email me at training @ dessci dot com.
Thank you for this explanation. Very helpful.
I think you have to import the saved MathML object i.e., Insert > Object > Formula… and then Tools > Import Formula… In other words “support” in this context probably refers to the MathML file format.
